Kinja'd!!!

Got my cheap-ass glasspack in the mail today, going to try putting it on tomorrow somehow, so that should be entertaining considering I've only welded once before in my life. I'll take video.

Kinja'd!!!

I can't understand you guys. You seem a bit... muffled.

Unfortunately, I got my car back from the shop with a new tire since one of my Toyos had a split belt (ugh), and new bearings. Unfortunately, the car was knocked into the shape of a large metal banana (hyperbole) by my friend's mom running into it with an F-350, and now it pulls to the left just enough to bug the shit out of me. Also the rear doors make totally different noises when they close now.

And there's still a vibration at 60mph, despite having a new tires, balanced rims, and new hubs. It's nowhere NEAR as bad, but there's still one there. WTF.

Good luck! I tried my hand at welding for the first time since high school this past weekend, and the first time I've ever tried MIG welding, and I realized that I really suck at it. Maybe if I practice a lot I'll get to the point where I'm merely bad at it.

Are you getting the crash damage repaired?

I'm not sure what kind of welder it was that I used, but a filament came out of the tip of the probe and was autofed through there, so it was probably the easiest welding you could possibly have done, and I got reasonably competent at it. Hammered the crap out of my welds afterwards and they didn't break, but it was 1/6th-inch steel so it was relatively thick

Yup. Probably going to be around $800 when all is said and done to get the crash-related stuff fixed. No big deal to my friend's mom since they're millionares or some crap like that, but it's an annoyance to me and means I have to drive the dreadful '99 Silverado.

That was part of the problem, I need to weld some thinner sheetmetal and I tend to blow through it. I think it's a matter of getting the speed right, but I'm going to stick to practicing on scrap until I get it at least functional if not pretty.

At least it's getting sorted, if they're that rich you should've got a body shop to give you an unreasonably high quote for the damages...

Speed dependent vibration?

Is this on that big beast you just bought?

RWD= Check the drive shaft and u-joints.

Nah, it's the FWD Buick LeSabre I've had for ages.

well, you are on the hunt, your post says its improved, look like you need to go deeper (into the front end components)

susp bushings, half shafts, CVs

ugh.

Gross. The axles and most front suspension components were replaced less than 40,000 miles ago, so I'd be slightly surprised if those were the issue. And either way working on FWD vehicles is a royal pain, so I'm not looking forward to it. I'm going to have to do more driving around to verify the vibration on different road surfaces. Could be a problem with my other front tire, as well.

Exhausts are annoying. If you get cheap ones, you'll have to do all sorts of fabrication/modification to put them on, and you have to pay out the nose for OEM-direct-fit systems. Either way it's a crapshoot cause you don't know if you'll like what it sounds like until after you've gone through all that effort to get it on.

Or just cut pipe -> weld new muffler in where the old one was -> done.

Also I get to learn how to weld on thin metal, so that'll be interesting.

Oh yes cause welding is suuuuuch a casual activity.

This car is a learning experience. If I can figure out how to weld on thin metal then that'll be really cool. If not my friend who owns the welder I'm using knows how and he'll take over.
